BioSysteM premieres public engagement booth at FORSCHA – Munich Science Days

From July 17 to July 19, 2026, BioSysteM brought science to the shopping mall FORUM Schwanthalerhöhe. Participating in the science festival FORSCHA – Munich Science Days, which hit a new record of 14,500 visitors this year, the cluster successfully premiered its public engagement booth.

Over 500 children, teenagers, and adults enthusiastically deciphered secret DNA codes, built corresponding “protein” keychains, and improved their function with special beads of their own choosing at the BioSysteM booth. A motivated team of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers explained protein folding, function and the broader scientific vision of BioSysteM in more detail.

Exhibition Bacteriopolis invites into the hidden world of microbes

In front of the shopping mall, BioSysteM PI Kirsten Jung and her group invited visitors into the hidden world of microbes. microbes. Housed in a shipping container and travelling across Germany, the exhibition Bacteriopolis explores the origins of life on Earth. With many interactive elements, it fascinated visitors of all ages.

Across the BioSysteM activities, countless visitors shared inspiring questions and perspectives on the research. The success was also the result of a close collaboration between seven Munich clusters of Excellence.
