BioSysteM’s first Biotech x AI Venture Forum co-organized with TUM Venture Labs recently gathered over 80 researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, industry and legal experts to explore opportunities, offer inspiration, and provide practical guidance.

BioSysteM PI Thomas Schlichthärle delivered a keynote from the research perspective. He made clear how AlphaFold has revolutionized protein design “saving humanity 50,000 years”. Speaking from the startup perspective, Martin Patz, co-founder of Differential Bio, shared various examples as well as lessons from their own playbook to examine what makes startups succeed and fail at the intersection of biotech and AI. Martin Schatte, Principal Scientist Protein Science at the Lead Discovery Center, brought the industrial perspective to the table. He mapped out opportunities and current limitations they encounter when integrating AI into antibody development in practice.

Varied and valuable expertise across the Munich ecosystem

A panel discussion featured furthermore IP expert Elisabeth Pauli, head of the BioSysteM AI Core Unit Patrick Quoika, Tim-Henrik Bruun of the BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH, and investor Johannes Bange. The discussion highlighted the breadth of expertise across the Munich ecosystem, spanning regulatory, technical, and investment perspectives. The conversation showed how much can be gained by bringing together all these different ingredients of entrepreneurial success.

Many thanks to all the speakers and participants for their valuable contributions.
