Biomolecular Design Studios
Hands-On Biodesign & Public Engagement

The Biomolecular Design Studios are envisioned as lively hubs of experimentation, education, public engagement, and co-creation and will thus act simultaneously as makerspaces for biodesign, experimentation spaces for outreach activities and as discussion forums.
Our open labs and makerspaces provide a collaborative environment for developing new biomolecular systems and serve as an interface with schools, artists and the public for co-creation activities.
The biodesign makerspaces will create a low entry barrier for interested researchers to access modern biofabrication techniques and also to disseminate biodesigns within the cluster. In order to give fast and easy access to all researchers in the Munich area, BioSysteM will establish two makerspaces at the TUM and LMU main locations.

Deutsches Museum
A central goal of the cluster initiative is to engage in active discussions with society and policymakers on the “biorevolution”. With our collaboration partner, the Deutsches Museum, we aim to “bring the museum to the lab” in the context of our Open Labs using cutting-edge didactic concepts of the museum.
BioSysteM will be represented at the Deutsches Museum during open days and conceptualize special exhibitions in their newly established Science Communication Lab.
